Macbeth
Delivering iambic pentameter like second nature, the regal Washington is a commanding Lady Macbeth. Not simply a master class in Shakespearean acting, diction and rhythmic elasticity, hers is a revelatory performance in which one look carries as much portent as an entire soliloquy. She’s wife, mother and lover to Macbeth as needed, a burden that presages her collapse into derangement. In the total madness of her sleepwalking scene, Washington achieves true catharsis (as do we). Here are terror and pity conjoined.

…actress Maythinee Washington is up to the challenge. Washington communicates the ruthlessness of this ambitious woman and dominates the stage. You always want to watch her.

White Girl, at the 2010 Vegas Fringe
Maythinee Washington’s production of her own “White Girl” is a simple but not simple-minded movement piece about a young black girl’s discovering her identity in a white-driven world. It’s an often playful, cartoonish pantomime, with one near-silent scream that takes your breath away. Washington moves well, but it’s her expressive face that captures us. Grade: A

“The Last Will and Testament of the Blue Scepter,” part of the Superhero Diaries
A resonant note of tragedy is struck in Nate Devoll’s “The Last Will and Testament of the Blue Scepter.” Maythinee Washington exudes nobility as the mortally wounded crime fighter…

Audience Reactions (ratings system from MN Fringe site from 1-5 kitties):
Wonderful show (5 kitties)
The design of this show was very clever – but the way Maythinee literally transformed into four completely different people on stage was outstanding… Maythinee is the real deal – what a soulful, grateful, positive, lovely individual.

Great Vibe (5 kitties)
Maythinee was an incredibly engaging performer. She slips into her four characters with such familiarity it truly feels as if she’s sharing their skin.

As Queen Hecuba, Maythinee Washington’s authoritative voice and bereaved, silent scream over the body of her dead daughter is spine-chilling.
–Dave Surratt, Las Vegas City Life
...if you can accept the heightened language and reality of the piece, the rewards are huge. Hecuba (played by Maythinee Washington) spends the play trying to understand the horrors of the war. She has lost her sons, and in the course of the play loses her daughters Cassandra (Jamie Jones) and Polyxena (Sara Fontaine). One of the play’s closing scenes, as Polyxena’s dead body is brought back onstage and the women sing around it, is staggering. The weight of this moment breaks Hecuba, and she switches from calling for understanding to calling for destruction, unleashing a barrage of weaponry and poetry that drives the play to its thunderous conclusion.
